For the last five years we have shared a premises with our sister company Becktech, who had joint ownership of A K Muller (UK) Ltd with our parent company in Germany.

Earlier this year Becktech sold their shares back to AKM Germany and it now makes commercial sense for us to relocate.  These changes were amicably agreed by all parties involved.

At AKM UK we are excited about the changes as it will significantly change the ways in which we operate, which will enable us to offer an even better level of service to our customers.

After what seems like years of paperwork, negotiations, surveys and complicated legal phrases that nobody quite seems to understand (!), we now have the keys to our new premises.  After yesterday's meeting with builders a completion date before the end of September has been agreed.  Given the current emptiness of the building this doesn't seem all that long, but...

As the picture shows, the office is still in 'early stages'.  I've just spent an entire afternoon waiting around for BT to install four phone lines, but they only turned up to do three.   The last line is 'lost in the system' and our order for phones somehow 'cancelled itself' immediately after being placed.  What with days of listening to 'hold music' whilst being bounced around their various helpdesk departments it's no wonder my opinion of BT is not currently at its peak.

The office has walls!  The builders are still confident of a finishing date of just two weeks time! The electricians do start in a couple of days so progress should start to ramp up during next week.

After all my complaining about BT's incompetence (no, we still don't have the 4th line sorted), they've at least allocated us a great phone number - 01903 788888 !

The builders have just over a week to go, and as you can see there's a fair bit left to do with the office alone.  We are not shutting down at all during the move in order to continue a normal service to customers.  This requires a fair bit of military precision planning and means we can't start packing up the still functioning old office despite only two weeks until going live in the new building!

The electrics and comms are finished and the office now has a ceiling!  Painting white on dark coloured breezeblocks is a labourious task requiring three coats so is not a job to be envied!  However there is a feeling that everything is starting to come together now.  That is apart from the 4th phone line which was installed last week but with totally the wrong number. Mind you, did I really expect anything different ?!?.

Taken early in the morning, hence it's still dark!  Office now has lighting and is plastered and the kitchenette area is almost finished.  Still lots of painting to be done, not least the warehouse floor but completion still down for the end of this week. The phone saga rumbles on - BT engineer turned up yesterday to install our 4th line, despite it already being in.  Can a company really be this incompetent?!?

Last night we had our handover meeting with the builders.  Everything's finished as far as they're concerned and we're free to move in! We now have four days to get everything transferred from the old building and be up and running before next Monday 1st October which is when we will be live in the new building. Must go... better start packing!!!

Just 5 weeks ago it was empty, but now we're in and have been up and running for over a week. The first few days were a bit hectic as everything was still in boxes and stock was all over the place which is never easy when you're still open for business! However, pretty much everything is now in place and working and we're really pleased with how it's all come together. Onwards and upwards from here....
